Our Story

Texas Marine Robotics is a student-led team at the University of Texas at Austin, developing a fully autonomous surface vessel (ASV) for the international RoboBoat competition.

We are Texas’s FIRST collegiate marine robotics team, building an ASV to compete in the international RoboBoat competition.

As a new organization, with the support of our sponsors and the countless hours of hard work from our talented and dedicated team, we are able to:

technical structure

Our team is organized into three core sub-teams— Mechanical, Electrical, and Software—that work together to design, integrate, and test our autonomous vessel. This interdisciplinary structure allows us to operate efficiently while developing a fully integrated system.

Software

The Software team develops the systems that allow the ASV to operate autonomously. Their work includes machine vision, path planning, and control algorithms, enabling the vessel to perceive its surroundings, determine its route, and make real-time navigation decisions.

mechanical

The Mechanical team is responsible for the physical design and functionality of the ASV. This includes hull design, sensor integration, and propulsion, ensuring the vessel is structurally sound and capable of navigating the water effectively.

electrical

The Electrical team designs and manages the ASV’s electrical systems and hardware. This includes PCB design, electrical hardware mapping, wiring, and routing, ensuring that the vessel’s electronic components are properly connected and able to communicate reliably.
